Wow, has this pregnancy ever been one for the books!
I have always been a very healthy person, I hardly get colds or flu, and I pretty much never get any other kinds of illness, even with four snotty kiddos running around. Since getting pregnant this time, though, I feel like I'm under attack!
In the past five months, I have had non-stop sinus trouble (likely because of the pregnancy, it's not uncommon), I've had an eye infection, which never happens to me, I've had appendicitis (...seriously?), and now, the icing on the cake...pneumonia!
I thought I just had a minor post-viral cough, but in the last few days it started to get worse, and I started to have a really hard time catching my breath after coughing, so I caved in and went into see the Nurse Practitioner at our Family Health Team office today. Turns out this "post-viral cough" was a wee bit worse than I thought.
I have started antibiotics, of course, but I also looked up info on pneumonia in pregnancy (because it's what I do, I look up EVERYTHING). As my recent luck would have it, pneumonia in pregnancy is a touch worrisome. I am now at increased risk of preterm labour, low birth-weight (well, I guess that isn't really going to affect us), and maternal death! I'm pretty sure that the last one there won't be a problem, I'm not that bad off, but still! Things just keep getting scarier and scarier with this pregnancy, and I think I'm just about ready to wave the white flag...or I would be if I could...
